The Lo Down - My Marathon Running Experience

Hey Guys and Dolls,

Seeing as I'm into my weightloss and fitness journey I thought I'd tell you about my Marathon Running Experience. I've talked about it a bit in past posts but not too much and not in a long time. When I lost weight the last time I decided to get into running and I really enjoyed it.
I competed in three 10km, 2 Women's Mini Marathons and the Samsung Night Run. The latter was definitely my favourite run, it was so amazing running around Dublin City at night and the atmosphere was great. The medal for that run definitely stands out aswell. I ran one of the Women's Mini Marathons for one of Ireland's leading newspapers, The Herald to be exact so that was something different.

I definitely want to get back into running again. There's nothing better than the sense of achievement when you cross the finish line. I finished all my runs in and around the hour mark which made me so happy. I also love my medals alot, there so pretty and I display them in my room with pride.

The Lo Down - Pure Results One Day Detox Bootcamp

Hey Guys and Dolls,

Last weekend I attended the Pure Results One Day Detox event which is the brainchild of Kathryn Thomas. If you don't know who she is or the name sounds familiar she is the presenter from popular weightloss show Operation Transformation.
I've been to lots of events over the years but nothing like this so I was really looking forward to it and super excited. The event took place in the Radisson St Helens in Stillorgan, South Dublin. On arrival at 9am all participants were offered some breakfast which consisted of yummy smoothies, green teas and a wide variety of fruit.
The classes started  at 9.30am with Meta Fitness, a workout I've never done in my life but I really liked it. I'm not going to lie I was totally wrecked after that class, it wasn't only intense but effective aswell. There was another three classes throughout the day and really informative workshops. Breaks were taken in between so it was good to get some time out as it was much needed and was nice to have a bit of a rest. My favourite class was Boxericse I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm actually signed up to start classes myself next Thursday so I can't wait for that, something new to add into my fitness regime. At lunch time I had fish, lentils and sweet potato, the latter is my favourite food so I was delighted to see that they had that on the menu.
All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the Pure Results One Day Bootcamp I had such an amazing time and I'd recommend it to anyone. As they've gotten good feedback thus far they may be doing another bootcamp later in the year. Tickets for the event cost €99.50 which isn't bad at all as it's such a jam packed day. If you want to keep up to date with all the news from Pure Results you can check out their social media pages here and here.

YES Party! (Vótáil Tá)

With recent events, I have definitely found myself getting back to my old self since my last update. Positivity and mindfulness has without a doubt helped me along the way and what better way to get the ball rolling then to jump back into my blog. I know, I know, its been far too long but I'm back, apologies to all my readers!! As it's my first post back I'm going to keep this one short and sweet.
On Thursday I headed along to a Vote Yes party for the upcoming referendum on the 22nd of this month. The event was held in Thinkhouse's offices in Fumbally Square. I couldn't think of a better location to have it. The weather was perfect on the day, the sun was splitting the stones and everyone was dressed to impress in their vote Yes get up. This referendum is the topic of much discussion nationwide as the outcome of the vote will effect many people.

When we got there my friend Seán and I were handed a glass of champagne along with a very warm welcome from Fiona from Thinkhouse. It was Sean's first event and it was nothing like he had ever experienced before and finds himself enthusiastic about coming along to more events in the future.  He's really interested in starting a blog himself so keep an eye out folks! The music was pumping the setup of the place was glamorous as ever and I was astounded by the amount that showed up! I haven't been to an event in some time it was nice to see some familiar faces and have a catch up with a few of my fellow bloggers!

The fundraiser was in full swing by 6 o'clock and carried on until late. There were pizza vans in the courtyard and camera men picking up the many magical moments experienced on the night. The positive vibes and hopefulness that marriage equality would be made legal in Ireland was contagious and emotionally captivating.

I honestly hope that it gets passed, everyone deserves to be treated equally and marry the person they love. To anyone that hasn't registered to vote as of yet, go out and do it the deadline is May 7th because one vote can make all the difference so encourage all voters to go and exercise their constitutional right to vote!!

Until next time,

Laura<3

New Goodies from Lush for Valentine's Day 2014

Valentine's Day is a day I always look forward to every year. Not only cause it's a romantic holiday but because it means it's exactly 1 day until my birthday. That's right on Saturday the 15th I'll turn the grand old age of 24!! I love having my birthday so close to Valentine's Day as I love going to super cheesy romantic movie releases. Have to say the big movie companies never disappoint as they always bring out something romantic on my birthday without fail. Anyone remember the movie Valentine's Day with cameos from numerous different A-list stars including Taylor Swift? I went to see that on Valentine's Day when it was released. Man I can't believe that movie came out 4 years ago just shows how times flies. This year I'm planning on going to see Endless Love which stars the very handsome Alex Pettyfer. Paddy and I are going to see either next Friday or Saturday I think so I'm really looking forward to it. I also love how beauty brands bring out limited edition products for Valentine's Day. This year Lush really wowed me with their new products releases for this romantic holiday. A brand that I've been a huge fan of for years, I love when Lush bring out limited edition collections as they are always right down my street. I usually end up picking up everything on payday so I can't say my bank balance is overjoyed about that.
Last week I got a chance to go into Lush's Grafton Street store to talk a bit about the products. This is definitely my favourite store to visit as it's really spacious and the staff are really knowledgeable about their products which for me shows how much they believe in them. There is nothing worse than going into a shop and the person not knowing anything about the products their trying to sell. I always enjoy popping into the store and of course I always leave with a tiny Lush bag full of purchases. This years Valentine's Day collection includes lots of amazing bath and body products that were inspired by the romantic love songs and the movie Cocktail which starred the hunk that is Tom Cruise from the 80's. I love hearing the inspiration behind each product as I find it super interesting. When you go into your local Lush expect alot of vibrant and fun products. I wouldn't leave it too long though as I presume it being a Valentine's Day collection it could be gone by March.
I know a sure winner from this years collection will be the Love Locket bath bomb. If you break this bath bomb in half you'll find a tiny heart inside which means you can get three baths out of this one product or if you want to treat yourself you can throw the whole lot in. If it was my decision I'd probably opt for the later for a nice pampering treat. I'm not go into too much detail about this product as I want you to get a surprise when you try it yourself. My favourite product from this lovely collection has to be the Prince Charming Shower gel. If you've read any of my past Lush posts you'll have heard me rant about the fact that I don't have a bath in my house. This means that I can never use Lush bath products which is pretty annoying considering there is such an amazing selection to choose from. However this year they've brought out Prince Charming and I have to say I'm in love. This product contains a lot of nourishing ingredients such as marshmallow root and pomegranate juice which gives it a really nice sweet scent. I also have to take a second and appreciate the fact that it's neon pink, like who wouldn't be happy to get this for Valentine's Day or like me treat yourself to it. This shower gel for me is up their with Snow Fairy, if it was available all year round I'd definitely repurchase it. I've already asked Paddy to buy me the big bottle of this for my Valentine's Day/Birthday present so fingers crossed he remembers to pick one up.
If you prefer to take the fuss out of searching for a Valentine's Day gift, Lush also have a great collection of prewrapped gifts to choose from. They've brought out three in particular for Valentine's Day, Toucan Love, Neon Love and Lots of Love. These gift boxes are such as great idea for someone who maybe doesn't have the time to browse through all the products Lush has to over or if their a busy bee with work and need a last minute gift fast. All the gift boxes come in at different price points too so there's something to suit anyones budget. I'm loving the Lots of Love box, not only cause it's purple my favourite colour but cause it comes in a reusable box. I like the idea of how when you finish your products inside you have somewhere new to store stuff. Lots of Love contains a mixture of bath and body products so it's a good way to try the new Valentine's Day goodies and get familiar with the brand.

Has anything caught your eye from this years Valentine's Day Collection?

The Body Shop Honeymania Range

Vanilla and Coconut have always been my favourite scents, I can now add honey to the mix. I'm a huge fan of The Body Shop and the work they do with Community Fair Trade, sourcing raw ingredients from all over the globe. Their new range Honeymania is a winner for me, not only does it smell amazing but it also contains Community Fair Trade honey from Ethiopia. The Beza Mar beekeepers receive a regular income as well as knowing that with The Body Shop is helping to the preserve the beautiful rainforest. If your lucky enough to have a smart phone (I need a Iphone!) you can scan the QR code at the back of any product and you can read about the Community Fair Trade ingredients. I think this is a brilliant idea as it's always interesting to hear the story behind the product.
The range consists of seven products ranging from a yummy shower gel to a Honeymania soap. The latter is shaped like a honeycomb so it looks pretty cool. As always with The Body Shop I love the packaging. the eau de toilette comes in a handy 30ml bottle which would be ideal for travelling. I have another eau de toilette from the brand and they do last for ages as the staying power is quite good. I definitely want to pick up some more new scents soon.

My favourite product out of the range is the body butter of course! Did you even need to ask? It's really luxurious and I love slapping it onto my skin when it needs a bit of TLC. It's a lovely thick cream great for all those dry patches that come creeping up over the Winter months. All in all this range has something for everyone, I'd definitely recommend popping into your local store and giving it a sniff. I think it's the ideal scent for this time of the year to give us a lift from the Winter blues.

I'm already super excited to see what The Body Shop's Christmas collection is like if it's anything like this one I'll be very happy indeed. I can't believe November is finally hear need to start looking for Christmas presents.

What do you think of the new Honeymania range? Any products catch your eye?

Crabtree & Evelyn Tarocco Orange Launch

Last week I went along to the launch of CrabTree & Evelyn's new range Tarocco Orange in the Closer2Fabulous Make Studio. Not being a brand that I was too familiar with before, I was really looking forward to the event. After checking out all their products on the evening I have to say I'm in love.

From the packaging to the scents of the products I'll definitely be picking up some bits from their range. The Tarocco Orange Hand Therapy is certainly as new favourite of mine, it reminds me of Molton Brown's Naran Ji Hand Wash which I loved when I worked there last year. This stuff is amazing, it's a nice thick cream that sinks into the skin instantly without leaving your hands feeling greasy. I know I hate that feeling and it can turn me off certain hand creams right away, unless I use them at night. The handcream comes in a huge tube which I know will last me an age. Have to say for €16 you're getting bang for your buck with this one. Crabtree & Evelyn products would make amazing gifts as they come packaged so beautifully in gorgeous boxes. If your travelling fret not, as I was told that the majority of products from the range are available in travel sizes. This makes me happy as I love bringing nice minis away with me. The vintage style packaging is so nice that I almost don't want to put it in my bag for fear that I will ruin it. There's also a shower gel, body lotion, body souffle, body mist and body scrub available in the range so they definitely cover all areas. Price wise I don't think the brand is overly expensive, the priciest products e.g EDTs and body mists are €30 so I believe there is a product to suit anyones budget.Whilst I was there, Leanne mentioned how gorgeous the Pomegranate Hand Therapy was and after giving it a sniff I definitely agree, I've already added it to my wish list. Hilary from Make-Up Anonymous and I have already decided to take a trip down to Kildare Village to visit their store, I can see my card being used alot so I have got to start saving. In the mean time I'm going to check out their range over on the DolledUp.ie website.
I couldn't have chosen a better venue for this event. I've been to the Closer2Fabulous studio on a few occasions and I'm a big fan of the place. It's so homely, the perfect place for an intimate event. I've gotten my makeup done by the lovely Debs before and I was so impressed with the finished look which you can check out here. I'll definitely be popping back in soon when I have a couple of events coming up. I'll be reviewing some products from the Tarocco Orange range in the coming weeks so keep an eye out for that.

Have you tried Crabtree & Evelyn products? Let me know your favourites!

John Frieda Luxurious Volume Event

Last week I headed along to the relaunch of John Fried's Luxurious Volume range at the Morrison Hotel. I'm a big fan of the brand, there's always a few of their products included in my everyday haircare routine. I like how the products are very affordable and won't break the bank, plus I've always been super impressed with what I've tried from them. Full Repair and Luxurious Volume are my two favourite ranges from John Frieda. My hair is quite damaged from years of using my old trusted GHD way too much and its really flat so I find products from both these ranges really help alot.
The full Luxurious Volume range has been repackaged, I'm loving the new green look it's electric! These new and improved products contain volume boosting technology that gives the hair body without weighing it down, what more could a girl ask for? I'm really looking forward to using the new product in the range, the Fine to Full Blow-Out Spray. My hair definitely needs all the help it can get so I'm looking forward to giving this a whirl. If you haven't tried their Volume Refresh Dry Shampoo already, it's worth investing in a can in my book. I've never been the biggest fan of dry shampoo, every brand I tried before had irritated my scalp badly that was until I discovered this gem. It doesn't have a heavy scent like Batiste and it doesn't leave my hair looking ashy.

Jake Davis, John Frieda's Senior Stylist was there on the evening to talk us through the new range as well as doing a demonstration. I found it really helpful, we saw how to create natural volume in the hair and how to get the most out of the products. I certainly took a lot from this event and I'm really looking forward to putting these products to the test. With my flat hair, they definitely have their work cut out.
Have you tried any John Frieda products? Will you be checking out the new and improved Luxurious Volume range?

Lovely Lady Lunch at the Shelbourne Hotel

Yesterday I went along to The Shelbourne Hotel for lunch to celebrate the launch of the newest offering from Cocoa Brown, their Night and Day Tan. It's always so nice to catch up with old faces and get to meet lovely new bloggers too. We enjoyed a gorgeous three course dinner, having never been to The Shelbourne Hotel before I'll definitely be going back again. It was the perfect spot to hold a launch and I had such a brilliant time. The dinner was so yummy, I opted for the celeriac soup for starters and a lovely risotto for my main. I held off getting desert though as I'm still sticking to my Slimming World program. I did take a sneaky picture of Sarah's chocolate fondant to show you guys, doesn't it look scrumptious?

 The lovely Ellie & Ali
I'm obsessed with the original Cocoa Brown 1HR Tan so I was super excited to learn more about their new offering. I'm not the biggest tan lover, I always end up ridiculously orange which is certainly not the look I want to go for. However this never happened with the original tan I was left with a gorgeous natural glow after one hour which is exactly what I desired. The new tan is something different, applied before a night out you get a dark tan when watched off the next day your left with a natural healthy glow. I think this sounds perfect for any girl like myself who is heading to work the next day after a night out and doesn't want a dark tan from the night before. I haven't put this to the test yet but I'll be putting up a post soon to let you know my thoughts. After being blown away with the 1HR Tan I'm really looking forward to giving the new one a try. Marissa herself is so enthusiastic about her latest product that I know it's going to be a good one. Again the packaging just like the original is beautiful, something I know I'll be displaying on my shelve in my bedroom. Being a student it's great to find a tan that's good quality but also affordable at €7.99 which you can't go wrong with in my book. The new addition will be launching in stores in the next 2 weeks so definitely keep your eyes peeled for it. I just want to thank Marissa and Sarah for such a lovely launch, it was so nice to have so many bloggers sitting around the one table. I have so many new ones to check out now.

Have you tried Cocoa Brown's 1HR Tan? Are you looking forward to trying the new addition to the range?

Benefit's Most Glamorous Nudes Ever Eyeshadow Kit

Benefit have been rolling out a lot of gorgeous palettes lately. The packaging like the brand itself is fun and eye-catching so you can't walk by a counter without being drawn to them. I'm loving their latest release, The World Famous Neutrals palettes. All three can be used to create gorgeous eye looks for day and night. I already own their Big Beautiful Eyes palette which I love. My Mum got it for me as a gift for my 21st birthday two years ago and it's still going strong. I find myself reaching for it quite regularly too as it's so simple to use. I do like how Benefit have brought some new updated neutral palettes into the mix.
I was lucky enough to be given Eyenessa's Most Glamour Nudes Ever palette* at a recent Benefit event. I had my eyes on one of these for a while and was planning on getting one on payday so I was delighted when I won it during a quiz at the end of the night. To say I've been using this a lot is an understatement. Where do I even start with this palette? It literally has all you need to create a beautiful neutral eye look. If you're like me and like keeping things simple, there's a tip &tricks guide showing the perfect day and night look included in this kit. I love the selection of cream eyeshadows included, dare I say I may like these more than my much loved MAC paint pots. I know that's a pretty strong statement in itself. I love how the two creaseless cream eyeshadows are removable which makes them ideal for travelling, they're so tiny so they'll fit perfectly into any makeup bag. The shadows in the palette are more on the bronzy side of things which I love as they'll be perfect for the Summer months. I'm hoping we get the lovely weather to go with it very soon.
I know these palettes are a bit on the expensive side at €34.50 but in my opinion they are definitely worth the money for what you get. It probably wouldn't be a palette I'd cart around everyday, simply because I'd be afraid that it would get bashed around in my bag. When your finally finished with all the loveliness in the palettes, you can remove the tray and use it as a trinket box. This is exactly what I'll be doing with it as it looks so pretty sitting on my shelf. A nice little touch by Benefit that you'll see with the majority of their palettes and I love it. I already have my eye on the other two kits to choose from.Sure you can never have too many neutral eyeshadows if like me you use them all the time.

What do you think of the World Famous Neutrals Palettes? Which one do you have your eye on?

Leona Lewis Live Stream Gig Event at The Body Shop

Tonight I was lucky enough to attend an event in The Body Shop on Grafton Street. I headed along with my college buddy Serena, we braved the miserable snow to get into town on time. The Body Shop recently announced Leona Lewis as their new brand activist and I couldn't have chosen anyone better myself. I'm a big fan of her music and she's just a down to earth girl like the rest of us. The event itself was also celebrating the launch of her new cruelty-free makeup and fragrance collection for The Body Shop. We were treated to a live stream performance from the lady herself and it was brilliant. She sang two of my favourite songs, Trouble and Bleeding Love. I really enjoyed the live stream gig and Leona looked stunning. Her new collection from The Body Shop consists of two shimmer palettes, the fragrance White Musk Libertine, a blusher brush and a four gorgeous shades of lip gloss. My favourite product of the bunch from the collection is the Bronze Shimmer palette. The packaging is beautiful, it contains such gorgeous neutral shades. The palette itself is for the face but I think you'd get away with using this on the eyes too during the Summer months. This whole collection is going to go down a storm once it hits stores. I know I'll be first in line.
Before the event started I had a good look around at all the lovely products that The Body Shop have to offer. I've always loved their range of products and I blog about them quite a bit on here. Six months ago, The lovely store on Grafton Street got a revamp which has made browsing even easier. The layout is beautiful, I personally love it  as everything has it's own special place and is sectioned into makeup, skincare, gifts etc. Another exciting launch from The Body Shop that is making a overdue comeback is the Brazil Nut product line. I love this range so I was so excited to see that it was being relaunched in the new packaging. The product itself used Community Fair Trade Brazil Nut Oil so it's always good to hear that something is given back. The Body Shop has also launched the new Vitamin E BB cream that I had a good look at tonight. Surprisingly I haven't hopped on the band wagon for this craze yet but after seeing this product it may have changed my mind. It's very natural looking and it gives a lovely glow to the skin. Keep your eyes peeled you may see this on the blog after payday. Lastly the brand added a few new products to their ever popular Honey Bronze range. I love the bronzer from this collection, it's perfect for everyday and it comes in a couple of different shades. New products coming soon from the Honey Bronze collection is a new Bronze Shimmering Dry Oil  shade and a gorgeous Shimmer Lip Balm. The latter is definitely on my Wish List!
The new Leona Lewis collection launches in stores on Thursday 4th April (not too long to wait!) while your there checking out the new products why not sign the Cruelty Free International pledge. Throughout the month The Body Shop will be hoping to get one million signatures to end animal testing worldwide. If you can't make it into a store you can also sign the pledge online here. They already covered Europe now lets make it the world, every signature counts!

What do you think of the Leona Lewis collection for The Body Shop?

Marc Jacobs for Diet Coke Launch in BT2

I love when Diet Coke come out with new limited edition packaging for their traditional glass bottles.  I already have quite the collection of them in my room, they look gorgeous plus they make fabulous bookends. The latest designer to collaborate with Diet Coke is none other than Marc Jacobs and I couldn't wait to see the new designs. Diet Coke have done really impressive collaborations in the past , remember Karl Lagerfield and Jean Paul Gaultier? I was expecting something big this time around in celebration of Diet Cokes 30th Anniversary and needless to say I wasn't disappointed.
I headed along to BT2 on Grafton Street last week to check out the new collaboration with my lovely blogger buddy Sian. We were rushing against the clock on the way in so I was surprised we made it on time.  As we walked into the BT2, the tunes were playing and the atmosphere was already electric. There was a selection of delicious cocktails being served but I steered clear of them as I had to rush off to college straight after the event. I'm into my final month now and I can't start missing lectures at such a crucial time. Pity though as the cocktails looked so good, aw well I stuck to the Diet Coke. I did have plenty of fun in the photo booth on site, even if the pictures that came out weren't my finest. Throughout the evening there were models showcasing the new Marc by Marc Jacobs collection and they were absolutely stunning, I loved all the different looks. I was surprised to see that my work buddy was one of the models and she did such an amazing job, it was so nice seeing her. At the event I also met and got my picture taken with the Diet Coke hunk Andrew Cooper, boy is he hot! You may know him as the gardener in the new ads on TV. Everyone was eager to get there picture taken with him. I seriously don't think the guy had a minute. I look extremely short in the picture next to him and I'm wearing boots. Oh my I think I may be shrinking or I'm not as tall as I once thought!
The Marc Jacobs for Diet Coke collection consists of three limited edition designs inspired by the 80's, 90's and 00's. It states on each bottle which decade the design is influenced by. This time around I seriously can't choose a favourite, I really like them all. They're all very different and already take pride of place beside the other bottles in my Diet Coke collection.

What do you think of the new Diet Coke & Marc Jacobs collaboration? Would love to hear your thoughts?
